The Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg Award
For the 2nd consecutive year, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and Fondation Liban Cinema (FLC) granted the BerlinAir 3 months’ Residency Program in Berlin for filmmakers/authors to develop their narrative feature film.
The jury received many candidates and the choice wasn’t easy to make. All of the submissions were highly professionals and the projects were very promising.
Instead of 1 award, they jury ended up awarding 2 Lebanese filmmakers.
Congratulations to Feyrouz Serhal who will be developing her first feature film I am here but you can’t see me, And to Oualid Mouaness who will be developing his second feature film.
Biography Feyrouz Serhal
Feyrouz Serhal acquired her Master’s degree in Film and Screen Studies at Goldsmiths College University of London in 2009. Her last short narrative film Tshweesh was premiered in the prestigious Locarno Film Festival in 2017.
Serhal is now in the late stage development on I Am here But You Can’t See Me her first feature narrative film as a writer/ director. In 2019 the project took part in the RAWI screenwriters lab, and it was one of the twenty projects selected by Les Arcs Film Festival Coproduction Village.
Biography Oualid Mouaness
Lebanese director Oualid Mouaness grew up during the war years between Beirut and Monrovia. His acclaimed first feature film ‘1982’ won the NETPAC Award at TIFF19, the FIPRESCI International Critics Prize at El-Gouna Film Festival, and garnered awards at numerous festivals around the world. It became Lebanon’s submission for the OSCARS 2020. His first short film “The Rifle, The Jackal, The Wolf And The Boy” was Oscars shortlisted in 2017.
He is currently working on his yet UNTITLED second feature that examines the polemics of love and family in times of contemporary socio-political upheaval in Lebanon. The work was honored to receive the Berlin-Air artist Residency from the Fondation Liban Cinema and Medienboard in 2020.
