To preserve the Lebanese audiovisual heritage, the Fondation Liban Cinema, selected 17 original classic Lebanese feature films of old public productions and from different eras, from the fifties, sixties, seventies and eighties, to be restored, subtitled, and transferred in 3 Formats: Digital Betacam for conservation and use, DVD for viewing and HDD for archiving, making them available for public
Reviving the past, revisiting the old movies, discovering our culture and heritage, preserving our History and saving our country’s film heritage is among the Fondation Liban Cinema’s objectives
The movies that were restored during the last few years:

2017:

1)  Ila Ayn

Director: Georges Nasser
Year: 1957
Synopsis: A family lives poorly in a village in the Lebanese mountain. One day the father abandons his family and leaves for Brazil, considered an Eldorado by a great number of his compatriots. Twenty years pass. The mother raised her children with great difficulty: the elder has a family and the younger one is getting ready to immigrate to Brazil. One day a ragged old man arrives to the village.

2006

1) الفقراء مملكة or Kingdom of the poor

Director: Philippe Akiki
Year: 1967
Synopsis: Philippe Akiki in this film plays the main character, that of a poor vegetable vendor. Mistreated by his egotistic son, the vendor lives in misery but he still defends his son and runs to rescue him whenever he is in trouble.

2) أبو سليم في أفريقي or Abou Salim in Africa

Director: Gary Garabédian
Year: 1965
Synopsis :The famous comedian TV characters Abou Salim and Fehman embark on a trip to an African country hoping to seize the fortune of Abou Salim’s old uncle who is sick. The road full of dangers, plots and deceptions brings them back to their home country where they reconcile with their reality and preach against emigration.

3) الجاكوار السوداء or The black jaguar

Director: Mohammad Salma
Year: 1965
Synopsis : In this “James Bond” imitation, director Mohammad Salman creates a Lebanese secret agent 007, played by Ihssan Sadek, who drives a black jaguar and confronts drug dealers.

2005:

1) غيتار الحب or The guitar of love

Director: Mohammad Salman
Year: 1973
Synopsis: This is the 29th film by Mohammad Salman. A musical comedy with a love story, some gags and jokes, and of course a combination of Lebanese and Egyptian stars, almost all speaking with the Egyptian accent.

2) بيروت اللقاء or Beirut the encounter

Director: Borhan Alaouié
Year: 1981
Synopsis : Haidar has fled his occupied village in South Lebanon and come to live with his brother and his family in Beirut. He is constantly trying to meet Zeina, his Christian friend who lives in East Beirut and whom he hasn’t seen since two years. But the obstacles are omnipresent in a city divided by front lines and incommunicability.

3) لبنان رغم كل شيء or Lebanon in spite of everything

Director: André Gédéon
Year : 1982
Synopsis: Joumana, a 10 year old girl takes refuge along with her father and aunt in their family house in the mountain while her mother is trapped in West Beirut. Joumana’s private instructor – a refugee from the South – asks her to write an essay about the story of a man who is desperately searching for his son whom he lost in the war. The essay becomes a story inside the story, a film inside the film

4) الجهة الخامسة or The fifth direction

Director: Sobhi Seifeddine
Year : 1983
Synopsis: Lebanon during the Israeli invasion of 1982 witnesses the birth of the national resistance. Displaced civilians, misery and violence. There was a necessity to attract international attention to South Lebanon which would then become a fifth direction.

2004:

1) قطط شارع الحمرا or The cats of Hamra street

Director : Samir el Ghoussayni
Year : 1972
Synopsis :The film recreates the world of the youth of Hamra street. Hippie youngsters torn between alienation and rejection. Love, sex, alcohol, drugs, motorcycles, suicide…

2) القدرor Destiny

Director : Mounir Maasri
Year : 1972
Synopsis : The story is set in a rural environment. Hamed seeks liberation from ignorance and rebellion against feudalism. He embarks on the search for a precious diamond that will allow him to attain knowledge and power.

3) Salam…after death

Director : Georges Chamchoum
Year : 1971
Synopsis : A village wedding… everyone is joyful. Siham, a beautiful, dynamic and highly coveted girl, goes into the forest, never to appear again. Rumors say she has been kidnapped by a man from a neighboring village. Salam, her twin sister, urges her fiancé who is enrolled in the Turkish army, to open an investigation.

4) مئة وجه ليوم واحد or Hundred faces for a single day

Director : Christian Ghazi
Year : 1972
Synopsis : Christian Ghazi combines dramatic narration with documentary footage in order to give an analytical perspective of the Lebanese society in the early seventies. “Hundred faces for a single day” is one of the few political Arab films that present a new form of audio and visual narration.

2003:

1) بنت الحارس or  The guardian’s daughter

Director : Henri Barakat
Year : 1968
Synopsis : A young girl’s father is fired from his job as a guard because there are no more criminals left in town so she pretends to be a thief in order to stir up trouble and get him his job back

2) بياع الخواتم or The ring seller

Director: Youssef Chahine
Year : 1965
Synopsis : Exiting Egypt after Nasser’s nationalization of the industry, Chahine made this absolutely delightful musical fantasy with terrific song-and-dance and colorful sets. The story unfolds in a village where the mayor tells tall tales about imaginary foes to all but his beautiful niece.

3) Garo

Director : Gary Garabedian
Year : 1965
Synopsis : This film retraces the true story of Garo, a criminal outlaw who lived during the sixties , and who was pursued all his life by the police, until he was murdered in 1962.

4) إلى أين or Towards the unknown

Director : Georges Nasr
Year :1957
Synopsis : First Lebanese movie shown in Cannes Festival, the film relates the story of a father who travels to Brasil, leaving his wife as well as his two sons, Said and Farid behind him. When he returns,decades later, his children don’t recognize him.

5) Safar barlek

Director : Henri Barakat
Year : 1967
Synopsis : musical and a war film, The film is set in 1914.
