The DW Akademie – Germany’s leading organization for international media development has been supporting filmmakers in various focus countries through measures in its film industry.
In 2019, DW Akademie collaborated with Fondation Liban Cinema for the first time to conduct a study on the Lebanese cinema to understand the film industry of the country and the associated business models and to derive future options for action for the DW Akademie.
The aim of the study was to understand the film industry, as well as the associated business models of the different countries and to derive future options for action for the DW Akademie.
Understanding who and how the respective local film industry is organized and which topics are eligible to Deutsche Welle Academy to improve it’s engagement,
What is the state of the film industry in the country,
How is the education system for film and media in Lebanon,Which qualifications for media professionals already exist or can be expanded,Which skills and knowledge are most needed,
How cultural and historical relevant film archives are supported and maintained,
What does the production landscape look like,
What obstacles prevent a functioning film industry,
Which risks is the audiovisual sector facing in Lebanon.. were the main questions and topics that were answered and developed in the study.
