Cypriote Maronites

This documentary revolves around the Cypriot Maronites from the Turkish front of Cyprus, in the villages such as Assomatos, Kormakitis, Karpasha & Aya Marina. Maronite is a religious rite coming from the region of Mount Lebanon. The name derives from Saint Maron, whose followers could maintain their own identity but still are dependent of the Catholic Church of Vatican. The Maronites came from the Levant to Cyprus since more than 1200 years. Their numbers started to drop since 1974, after the arrival of the Turkish military base to the north of Cyprus, where only the elderly remained. We shall be talking about this community, their attachment to their gradually disappearing language and decreased number, and their Maronite traditions deeply-rooted in their hearts, trying to save their identity through the time.
