The Arab Film Platform (AFP) is a unique program initiated by the Arab cinematographic centers of the Arab Film Institutes Commission (AFIC). AFP seeks to encourage and support the cinematic production of the region by providing supporting and networking opportunities to emerging, up-and-coming as well as established filmmakers from the Arab world, with a focus on the crucial phase of development of their feature film projects.
Announced in July 2019, at Manarat festival, in Tunisia, the Arab Film Platform has a double ambition: allow the establishment of a network of platforms, labs and residencies that support film development, as well as enable seven project holders to benefit from these partnersâ experience and expertise.
Through the Arab Film Platform, AFIC collaborates with established and recognized partners in the Arab world that are actively working in the same spirit to stimulate and strengthen the cooperation between Arab cinema professionals, by reinforcing the links between fellow filmmakers, and with the Arab industry at large. An independent selection committee will select 7 feature film projects that will be supported by AFP and take part in a support program established in one of the AFIC countries. Each institution of the state member of AFIC, namely, Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia, will ensure the participation of one of the selected film projects, by covering the participation cost and mobility costs, within one partner initiatives. This network will connect for the first time 7 existing Arab initiatives that support film development:
- Dahshur Residence (Egypt)
- Rawi (Jordan)
- Atelier d’Ă©criture de Fondation Liban CinĂ©ma (Lebanon)
- Film Femmes Francophones I Méditerranée (Lebanon)
- La Ruche documentaire (Morocco)
- Dox Box (Arab World)
- Sud Ecriture (Tunisia)
This platform will also offer an expansion mechanism that will guarantee that the selected film will reach the AFIC financing, production and distribution partners in the Arab world and globally. Each project will benefit from a long term support of all the AFIC members, providing assistance in the elaboration of a production and distribution strategy. The Arab Film Platform will also support the promotion of the selected projects in the Arab and international film markets.
