A Sad and Beautiful World: The Journey of a Film Supported by Fondation Liban Cinema

A look back in photos at the discussion around “A Sad and Beautiful World”: the journey of a film supported by the Fondation Liban Cinéma, through workshops, residencies, co-production platforms, and financial backing. The event offered a rare behind-the-scenes insight into the life cycle of a Lebanese film, highlighting the different stages of development and the collaborative efforts that bring a project to fruition.

The conversation shed light on the creative and logistical challenges encountered along the way, as well as the importance of sustained support structures for filmmakers working in Lebanon today. It also provided an opportunity to reflect on how a project evolves over time—artistically, structurally, and in response to its context—until it reaches its final form.

The discussion was followed by an exclusive preview screening, allowing the audience to experience the result of this journey on screen, and to engage with the film in a deeper, more informed way.

Many thanks to director Cyril Aris, producer Georges Schoucair, and script consultant Antoine Waked for their generous participation and insights.
