Following the great success during the past editions, Beirut DC and Fondation Liban Cinema launched the 3rd edition of “Beirut Cinema Platform” (BCP), an initiative designed to bring Lebanese and Arab independent filmmakers/producers with industry professionals, with the aim to encourage co-productions, collaborations and partnerships, with the support of the EU Delegation.
During this coproduction platform, around 20 Arab directors/producers, holders of feature-length film projects (documentary and narrative films), met with 15 to 20 local, regional and international co-producers, commissioning editors, sales agents and fund representatives.
These meetings aimed at encouraging project development, co-productions and collaborations, facilitating the access to regional and international financing, and promoting the exchange of expertise between the participants and the international experts.
Many events and activities happened during these 3 days:
Thanks to CCIB (Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture of Beirut & Mount Lebanon), a nice reception was organized by Fondation Liban Cinema at the Gathering opening the Beirut Cinema Platform and welcoming all the guests and participants.
During the 3 days, International and Arab films that have already participated in BCP were screened at Metropolis Cinema:
“Beauty and the Dogs” by Kaouther Ben Hania
“Panoptic” by Rana Eid ( was not screened because of censorship)
“ The Blessed” by Sophia Djama
“ Wajib” by Anne Marie Jacir
In partnership with Idal, a round table about the opportunities to invest in the industry, distribution methods and the financial tools and creative strategies for filmmakers in Lebanon was organized by Fondation Liban Cinema during the BCP
And finally, at the end of the 3-days event that gathered more than 40 talents and experts, a jury composed of 3 professionals handed prizes to film projects in development and post-production:
Fondation Liban Cinema Awards:
-Costa Brava Lebanon (Lebanon) by Mounia Akl:
Atelier premiers plans d’Angers, presented by Les ateliers premiers plans d’Angers and Fondation Liban Cinema.
-Embodied Chorus (Lebanon) by Danielle F Davie and Mohamed Moe Sabbah: participation in Rotterdam Lab, by Fondation Liban Cinema.
Other awards:
-Janitou (Algeria) by Amine Hattou: IDFA award for the Most Promising Project, the award is presented by the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam.
-The Return of the Gerboas (Algeria) by Amira by Gehanne Khalfallah: a participation in the Ateliers Sud Ecriture, presented by ateliers Sud Ecriture.
-Dead Dog (Lebanon) by Sarah Francis: a participation in the Cinegouna springboard 2018, presented by Elgouna Film Festival.
Awards presented to projects in the work-in- progress phase:
-Night Exterior (Egypt) by Ahmad Abdalla: Color grading and
conforming award presented by pixelmob.
-Underdown (Lebanon) by Sarah Kaskas: sound mixing award,
